PGY1 Pharmacy Residency

Program Purpose

Xổ số miền namThe postgraduate year one (PGY1) pharmacy residency program at Palmetto General Hospital builds upon the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training. Palmetto General Hospital PGY1 Pharmacy Residency program is a 12-month, full-time program. This PGY1 program complies with the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) duty hours.

How to Apply

Applicants must submit an application through PhORCAS and register through the National Matching Service (NMS). The deadline for applications is January 10th. Applicants must have graduated with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited Doctor of Pharmacy Program and be licensed or eligible for licensure in Florida.

Application requirements:

  • Three (3) letters of recommendation (at least one from a current licensed pharmacist)
  • Official college transcripts
  • One typed essay page addressing career goals, strengths, and weaknesses (letter of intent)
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Available for on-site interview

Requirements for Completion

  • Successful completion of all required program core rotations, longitudinal rotations, and elective rotations, and all staffing commitment responsibilities
  • The resident has successfully completed and “Achieved” >80% of required and elective ASHP goals/objectives with no active “Needs Improvement”
  • Participation required in resident meetings (ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting, Florida Residency Conference (FRC), Southeast Society of Health-System Pharmacists (SESHP) Conference, Dade County Pharmacy Association (DCPA) Conference)
  • The resident has attended and participated in P&T Committee, Medication Safety and Antimicrobial Stewardship Subcommittee meetings
  • The resident has successfully completed residency research project (data collection, abstract, ASHP Midyear poster, FRC presentation)
  • Completion of BLS and ACLS certifications
  • Present continuing education programs (minimum of three)
  • Successful completion of Journal Club presentations (minimum of four)
  • Present at Medical Residents Lecture Forum (minimum of four)
  • Precept APPE pharmacy student(s) as designated by preceptor
  • Completion of the exit evaluation and meeting with Residency Program Director (RPD)
